Choosing the ICT strand in senior high is a smart move for students who want a career in tech. It gives them the basics in computing, programming, and digital communication needed for many jobs in the industry.
We asked two ICT students, Alyssa and John Mark, why they picked the strand and what tech jobs they hope to get.
For Alyssa, the choice was because of its alignment to her future career and hobby:
"I chose the ICT strand as it is related to my future career, and I wish to learn more within the strand. The ICT related career I wish to pursue in the future is being a Quality Assurance/Game Tester. I want to be a game tester as it has always been my hobby/talent to test games. I always found joy in doing so."
That's super cool! It proves that you can actually study what you love. The ICT strand helps her learn all the technical stuff she'll need to know to find and report bugs so games are perfect when they launch.
John Mark's reason for choosing ICT is all about the future of tech and making things better for everyone.
"I chose the ICT strand because I like technology and how it keeps improving our world. Technology helps people connect, solve problems, and create new ideas, and I want to be part of that."
"In the future, I want to become a software developer. I enjoy making programs and apps that can help people in their daily lives. I like this job because it lets me use my creativity, help others, and keep learning new things as technology grows.
John Mark is all about using code to be creative and build useful tools, that’s what the programming classes in ICT are prepping him for!
Both Alyssa and John Mark show that the ICT strand is perfect if you’re into technology. Whether you’re dreaming of a fun, niche job like Game Testing or a big, creative role like Software Development, ICT gives you the skills you need to start building that future now.
